

Mercedees (Merc) Smith (nee McNeill) passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital on October 1, 2016 at the age of 88 years. Merc was born in Fiske on October 18, 1927. While working at the Saskatoon Sanitorium, she met Malcom (Mac) Smith, who was a patient, and they were married in 1950. Merc was an Operating Room Technician and worked for 5 years in Winnipeg and 22 years at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. She retired in 1988. Merc enjoyed golfing and participating in the social and fundraising events at Luther Heights. She often volunteered her time and was a member of a number of committees with the Legion and at Luther Heights. Merc is survived by her three children, Marleen (Larry) Cook of Blackstrap, Darrel (Loretta) Smith of Thailand, and Dawn (Rob) May of Watrous; her 6 grandchildren, Candace, Jody, Kevin, Dylan, Shaylyn and Danny; her eight great grandchildren, Courtney, Tyson, Tanner, Taryn, Tehja, Taylor, Sophie and Stella; and her brother, Murray Grady of Dundurn. Merc was predeceased by her husband, Mac; father, Ray McNeill; mother, Elsie Grady; and sister, Jean Armstrong. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Acadia-McKague’s Funeral Centre. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Luther Heights Foundation. At Merc’s request there will not be a funeral, only a private graveside service with family members at the Military section of Woodlawn Cemetery
