Michael was the third oldest of five children of John and Bertha Weiland of Marysburg, SK, where he grew up on the family farm until 14 years of age. In 1964 the family moved to Medstead, SK where they managed the local hotel. They created many memories through shared work and family time while enjoying the simple pleasures of small town life.
In his twenties Mike ventured to Alberta, dedicating numerous years to working and travelling throughout western Canada in the concrete industry. He enjoyed life on his acreage in Ardrossan, just outside of Edmonton. Mike appreciated all the space it had for his many toys. He loved his sleds, boat and his baby – the Corvette.
Mike had a keen sense of humour and loved to tease and torment his siblings, nieces, and nephews. He was always ready for fun and adventure and loved bringing family along for the ride. He enjoyed sharing time with them camping, skiing, boating and fishing. He loved fishing with his brother Matt and good friend Murray Chiverton. They spent many long weekends on the beautiful lakes of northern Saskatchewan.
In 2014, a stroke altered the course of Mike’s life, limiting his mobility, speech and independence. Despite the challenges, Mike’s unwavering character continued to shine. He remained a kind, beautiful soul. Mike will be remembered for his carefree, easy-going approach he brought to life.
Mike’s memory will be cherished by his sister Mary Lou Weiland, brother Mathew Weiland, sister-in-law Vivian Weiland, and brother-in-law John Schulkowsky, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. He was predeceased by his mother Bertha Weiland, father John Weiland, brother Jerome Weiland, sister Glorianne Schulkowsky and cousin Eugene (Wedge) Wegleitner.
The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at Diamond House in Warman and Central Haven in Saskatoon for their exceptional love and care provided to Mike during his residency.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or Central Haven Special Care Home in Michael’s memory.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday November 27, 2023 at Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor Street, Saskatoon). Arrangements entrusted to Thea Katchmar.
