October 4, 1964 – February 26, 2017
It is with deep sadness and a sense of peace that we announce the passing of Michael John Knisley at Royal University Hospital. Mike was admitted to hospital on February 9 as he faced complications with his COPD. After putting up a valiant fight that lasted two weeks he gave in to his oft spoken wish, “Bren, if I could just fall asleep and not wake up that would be ok.” He was surrounded by his loving family who knew too well the struggle he faced daily and who wished him peace despite knowing his passing would leave a huge void in their lives. Mike met Brenda Zuk (the girl next door) while attending the U of S in 1982. The following year he decided to attend Ryerson in Toronto to obtain his 3 Year Electrical Technologist Diploma. Their relationship endured the test of time and distance. Brenda and Mike were married on October 17, 1987. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Krista and Erica. Mike found deep satisfaction in his career as an Electrical Technologist being employed at Hinz Consulting, DME and PM&P. Mike’s health took a huge hit when he was diagnosed with COPD and bronchiectasis in 2009. He continued to work despite declining health and repeated hospitalizations until November 2013. Since then Mike found great pleasure in “garage visits” from his many friends, neighbors and family and finding ways to help them which would not require any major physical exertion on his part. Mike is survived by his wife, Brenda; daughters Krista (fiancé Adam Starkell) and Erica (companion Rogan Petryshyn), mother Vivian Knisley, sister Jenni (Garrett) Ulsifer, brother Dan (Cheryl) Knisley, in-laws Lyle Zuk (Jacquie Goertzen), Brian (Eve) Zuk, Tara (Pius) Bender, Andrea (Brad) Zerr and his many beloved nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his father, John Knisley and his in-laws Ed and Wilma Zuk. A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held at 1:30 on Saturday, March 4 at McClure United Church (4025 Taylor Street East, Saskatoon, SK). In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Lung Association or a charity of one’s choice. Following the reception, the interment will take place at The Wakaw United Church Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to John Schachtel – MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICE (306) 978-5200
