Nancy Jane Flaherty

“I’m not a one in a million kind of girl,

I’m a once in a lifetime kind of woman”

On May 11, 2022, the world lost a beloved mother, sister, and best friend. Nancy passed away peacefully at her home in Saskatoon SK, with her two loving sons at her side.

In her early years, Nancy attended elementary school at John Lake Elementary in Saskatoon, followed by attending high school at Walter Murray Collegiate. Later in life, she went on to college, obtaining a diploma in business management. After a career in management, she became a successful entrepreneur helping start and run a family business.

Nancy met her first husband in 1980 and had two sons, Dylan and Jesse. Her sons were her proudest achievement; she would tell everyone how proud she was of her “two smart boys”.

Nancy was a great mother to her two sons. She would always make each birthday special, preparing the night before by lining the house with balloons and streamers. She gave the best gifts, always finding the neatest knick-knacks or collectibles and would always strive to ensure each son got the same gifts (to prevent any arguing of course).

Nancy was very strong-willed. She was proud of her Irish heritage, loving her red hair and the fiery Irish temper that could come out when needed. That was rare though, as she was always laughing even when the going would get tough. She really knew how to stay positive and could shake off difficulties really well.

Ever a music fan, Nancy enjoyed listening to most music, but her favourite by far was rock ‘n roll. She attended many concerts – winning scores of free tickets from her many call-ins to C95 and Rock 102 – and even met several celebrities over the years. She would often enjoy listening to her favourite hits by AC/DC, Guns ‘n Roses, John Mellencamp, Tom Petty, Little Big Town, and more.

In her later years, Nancy battled Alzheimer’s disease, but it never stopped her from being herself and staying positive despite the challenges she faced. She had many people around her who cared for her and ensured that her later years were as comfortable as possible as her condition progressed.

Nancy will be fondly remembered, and memories of her will be cherished by her sons Dylan, Jesse (Cheryl), sister Laurie (Wayne), her best friend Stephanie, and of course, her grand-dogger Little.

Friends are invited to say a final goodbye at 11:00 am on Saturday May 28, 2022 at Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor Street). Arrangements entrusted to David Polzen.

Nancy was an aspiring poet and wrote several poems, some of which have been published in various poetry collections.

I look out to see

Is there sunshine

Waiting there for me?

There is a shadow

of an empty soul

Is it mine?

I don’t know

I see rain falling down

falling softly on the ground

Do I make my wish now

Or do I drown?

Oh look, oh see

what’s come for me

At my surprise, it couldn’t be

My sunshine! Just for me
