It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of Nancy “Nance” Simon on Friday January 12, 2024, at the Hospice at Glengarda, at the age of 77, with family at her side. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Ken; daughter Michelle (Dean) Yurkowski; grandson Andrew (Jaylynn) Yurkowski with grandpuppy Milo; grandson Michael Yurkowski (Tori Smalcel); daughter Jennifer Chupa (Shawn Dyky); grandson Chase with grandpuppy Otis, step-grandchildren Jenna, Carson, and Jarett; her brother Rick (Donna) While and their children Shawn with daughters Stella and Violet, Dean (Larissa) While with their children Evan and Olivia and Heather While with daughter Jesse; her brother-in-law Doug (Charlotte) Simon and their children Kip (Kelly) Simon with their children Chec and Calum and Stacy Simon (Peter Wilson) with daughter Phoebe. Nance was predeceased by her parents Alfred and Kathleen (While) and in-laws Paul and Helen (Simon).
Nance was born and raised in Winnipeg. She met Ken in 1967 and was married a short time thereafter in August of 1968. Nance and Ken had the opportunity of living in numerous provinces across Canada as he was employed with John Deere and with that, they had the pleasure of travelling to many different countries throughout their marriage. She also worked with the TD and CIBC banks before becoming a “domestic engineer” raising her children.
Nance was well-loved by all those around her. Always putting others first before herself. She always had a smile on her face, even towards the end. She was always an active person that enjoyed life to the fullest. Nance’s life revolved around her family, especially with her grandchildren. She loved spending time with them and watching them all play sports. She had many interests and hobbies. She was an avid sewer – she could fix or make whatever anyone needed. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, baking, and cooking. She especially loved her regular trips to the “library” especially when her brother was visiting from BC.
We the family would like to thank Dr. Spelay and the other palliative care doctors and staff at St. Paul’s Hospital, along with Dr. Howsam and Dr. Walker and the nurses and staff at the Hospice at Glengarda, for the exemplary, kind-hearted care they provided in her brief stay.
The Celebration of Nance’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday February 10, 2024, at Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor Street, Saskatoon, SK). For those unable to attend please visit www.faithproductions.ca/livestream to view the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to the Hospice at Glengarda (donations are to be made through St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation with designation to the Hospice at Glengarda – sphfoundation.org).
Arrangements entrusted to Derryl Hildebrandt.
