June 10, 1942 – April 29, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Nestor James Shinkewski on April 29th, 2025. He was born on June 10th, 1942 and raised on a farm near Invermay with his parents Walter and Stella (nee Myden) and siblings Janet (Ed), Gerry (Eileen) and Onufry (Charlene).
After graduating from high school, Nestor moved to Saskatoon to pursue a career in medical imaging and met his wife Sheila (nee Marshall) at the Royal University Hospital where he worked for 30 years. He is survived by his three children Daryl (Jacquie), Dean (Patty) and Sandra (Glenn). Nestor was very involved with his children in Swim Sask and officiated at many of their swim meets at the city, provincial and national level. He adored his grandchildren Jamie (Delaney), Kelcey (Andy), Tristen, Samantha, Braden and Jenae.
Nestor was married to Sheila for 41 years until her passing in 2005. Together they created many wonderful memories at Jackfish Lake boating, having campfires, playing games, and enjoying family time. Everyone loved Nestor’s fish fries on the beach. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking, and riding his quad. Nestor was well known for his cooking and gardening skills, especially his famous rhubarb cake. Through his professional work, Nestor was recognized provincially and nationally with his contributions to SAMRT and CAMRT. He was the recipient of the CMRIPS Life Member Award for his contributions to the Medical Imaging profession. The Nestor Shinkewski Leadership Award was created to honor individuals who have demonstrated exemplary leadership and dedication to the field.
After his retirement, he married Colleen (nee Coucill) and they spent 19 years together until his passing. They enjoyed spending time at the lake, travelling in their RV, spending many winters in Mesa, AZ and exploring many countries in the world.
Family was a priority for Nestor and he was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Nestor loved adventure and lived a very full life. He will always be remembered as a hard worker, and for his kindness and generosity. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
There will be not be a service as per Nestor’s wishes. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Gustin House, 47 Pony Trail, Riverside Estates, Saskatoon S7T 1A4.
