Oliver Alexander Cameron best known as ‘OC’ was born on November 17, 1944 on the Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation. OC grew up on the Beardy’s First Nation where he received his education, attending the St. Michael’s and Lebret Indian Residential School. Oliver devoted his life to supporting youth employment development and community relations; he was instrumental in introducing the first Teacher Education Program on the reserve. Oliver’s career comprised years of commitment to Social Services, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, Saskatchewan Indian Community College (SIIT) and retired as the Director of Labour Force Development with Saskatoon Tribal Council. Oliver was nominated by the Saskatoon Tribal Council as a recipient of the FSIN Circle of Honour Awards in September 2010. He was also bestowed with an Honourary Diploma in Business Administration by the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies. Oliver was known for his charismatic, humorous, friendly personality. In his later years, Oliver enjoyed: golfing, gardening, reading, horse races, the Dakota Dunes and watching sports. He especially loved the Montreal Canadiens and Saskatchewan Rough Riders. OC continued to work after retirement and he dedicated time to the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nation as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. He also served as Master of Ceremonies and coordinator of Pipe Ceremonies for the Saskatoon Tribal Council and provided Elder services to the Saskatoon Police Services. He volunteered for the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships, North American Indigenous Games and SaskSport. Oliver was predeceased by his parents Fredrick and Agnes Cameron (nee Chief), his siblings Margaret Cameron, Robert (Bobby) Cameron, Harvey Cameron and nephew Darrell Cameron. Oliver is survived by his loving wife Ruth, his daughters Colleen Cameron-Bergan (Terry), Anita Cameron (Joey), Nadine Badger (Darren) and Roberta Bear (Darcy), his grandchildren Dalyn Bear, Alyson Bear, Dray Bear, Luke Cameron-Leier and Jade Badger, great-granddaughters his “Queens” Kova and Kage Bear, his siblings Catherine Bear, Lorna Seeseequasis, David Cameron (Georgina), Martin (Patsy), Clarence (Debbie), Ellen Greyeyes (Darrell), Joe (Noella) and Dale (Melissa), a special nephew ‘little brother’ Harry Palmer (Barb). Our husband, brother, papa, uncle and good friend will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends. The Wake will be held on Saturday April 1, 2017 at 4:00 pm from Charles Redhawk Elementary School, Whitecap Dakota First Nation. The continued Wake will be held April 2, 2017 at 2:00 pm from Constable Robin Cameron Memorial Complex, Beardy’s and Okemasis First Nation, SK. The Funeral Service will be held Monday April 3, 2017 from 1:00 pm from Constable Robin Cameron Memorial Complex, Beardy’s and Okemasis First Nation, SK.
