We are saddened to announce the passing of a man who brought joy to everyone around him, who dedicated his life to altruistic endeavors, and loved his family with all his heart. Peter was a father, a brother, an uncle, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, and above else, a loving husband. Peter was actively involved in many service clubs in Saskatoon, including the Kiwanis Club, the Fides Club, the Knights of Columbus and the Elks, where his tireless charity efforts benefitted the community. Peter was also an active member of his church, St. Peter and Paul's Ukrainian Catholic Church. From assisting in their food tent at the Exhibition to singing in the choir, Peter was always there to lend a hand. Peter brought his love of singing home to share with his family, leading generations through Christmas carols in both English and Ukrainian. By his side through it all was his loving wife, Frances (Franky) Mary Shinkaruk (nee Turchenek), whom he married on May 1,1954 in Vancouver, B.C. They celebrated 57 years of marriage before she passed in 2011. Born in Vonda, Sask., Peter was one of 13 siblings. Following spending several happy years in B.C., Peter settled in Saskatoon with Frances where they shared their life together. From volunteering in the church to dancing to hosting countless family get-togethers, where one went, the other would follow. The two also ran successful businesses together for many years. They were blessed with three children, Sandra Miller, Peter Michael (Lynette) Shinkaruk and Angela (Grant) Schafer, whom will forever cherish him. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Petro (1946) and Anna (nee Slusar) (1995), stepfather John Sokal (1985), sister Nikolas, sister Nettie, sister Mary Solar (2002), sister Sophia Hrynuik (1981), brother Bill (2000), brother John (1984), brother Mike (1997), brother Jim (2008), brother Steve (2015), brother Nick (2005), as well as his wife Frances Mary Shinkaruk. He is survived by his brother Fred (Ollie) and Doris (Art) Feser. Peter will be greatly missed by his loving grandchildren. Children of Sandra Miller and Richard Holtom: Derek (Sherisse) Holtom, Jennifer (Josh) Hayward, and James (Marin) Holtom; children of Angela and Grant Schafer, Shelby Schafer and Justin (Kristina); and Alison Cluderray. Peter was also blessed with loving great grand-children. Thank you for the compassionate care of the staff at Warm and Cozy Care home and Sherbrooke Community Centre that were involved in his care. They treated Peter with respect, dignity and love in his final days. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Lighthouse Supported Living. Funeral Prayers will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. and the Divine Liturgy will be on Friday, November 4, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Father Michael Smolinsky as celebrant.
