Ron Koroll passed away peacefully with family by his side on Tuesday, October 7th. Ron was born on December 2, 1941, in Canora, SK. He spent his first 7 years in a two-room farmhouse before moving to Saskatoon. He went to Princess Alexandra and Bedford Road, where he met Elaine Fulwiler, and they shared over 60 years of marriage.
After high school Ron started a 43-year career at Modern Press/ Western Producer/MC Graphics.
Ron spent many of his wedding anniversaries fishing with his friends Click and Al at Nemeiben Lake. He also enjoyed woodworking as he renovated his home and cabin many times. He took a small engine repair course once and was able to fix his snowmobiles and lawn mowers with some degree of success.
In 1973, Ron and Elaine purchased a cabin at Emma Lake where they enjoyed holidays including Christmas’ and Thanksgivings. Time was spent water skiing and fishing in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. Ron, with Tom and Hazel, hold the Emma Lake record for water skiing in November.
Ron loved his time at the farm. He helped Uncle Mike, Harvey and Clayton harvest for decades and when the farm equipment got bigger and Ron got older, he became the parts guy, the gofer and still helped with harvest any way he could. He loved his Canora family and held a special place for Uncle Mike and Auntie Sophie.
It should be noted that Ron loved dogs. He took time to dog sit at every opportunity and used it as an excuse to spend time at the cabin.
Ron was always a great athlete. He excelled at hockey and football in high school. After high school he played for the Hilltops for 2 years. His hockey career spanned his entire life as he played minor hockey in Saskatoon then played in both 50+ and 60+ leagues. A highlight of Ron’s was the 2004 Canora family hockey tournament where he was able to play with his brother Cliff, his sons and nephews.
Ron was a family man. He enjoyed visits with family and friends, and crib games where cheating was only a problem if you got caught. He was so proud of his brother Cliff for being the first family member to go on to college and of course his hockey career. The Blackhawks logo is prominent in the Koroll household.
Ron’s greatest love were his grandkids. Rare was a night Ron and Elaine were not at a rink, ball diamond, court, field or auditorium, following the paths of their grandkids with pride.
Ron is survived by his wife Elaine, his sons Jeff (Jennifer) and Doug (Barbara), and grandchildren Josh, Hannah, Matthew, Chelsea and Shayla; brother Cliff (Lynnae) and brother-in-law Bill Fulwiler; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, John and Irene; brothers Bruce and Bill; sisters Mary and Dianne.
The family is grateful for the care and support of the Saskatoon Cancer Center and RUH Emergency staff. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saskatoon Cancer Center or a charity of your choice.
