Janie Funk, also known as Jane, Just Jane and The Funkster, passed away in the care of the amazing hearts that operate the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul's Hospital on May 26, 2015. Coming to take her hand to her next journey is her dad, Donald; brother Tommy; her hubby Trace; and her favourite student Darcy. She remains a bright light to her daughter Richelle (Lawrence) and her beloved granddaughter Aleksandra Jude, or as her "Gannie" called her, AJ. She deeply loved her brother David Ward (Trish), and was very proud of her nephews Sandy, Chris and Andrew. She cherished her "peeps" Tom, Georgette, Liz, Jeanne, Donnie, Gayle, Anna and Anne, and her many other countless friends that she held close. Janie accomplished much in her almost 30 year career in the Saskatoon public school system, and for her work she received the Community Coordinator of the Year Award and the YMCA Woman of Distinction for Community Building Award. She was most proud of her involvement in cultural-based learning, such as the powwows at City Park Collegiate, and the many students who shared their lives, dreams and talents with her. Janie wanted every young person to believe they were worthy of opportunity and respect. That was her one wish for all. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saskatoon Public Schools Indigenous Dance Ensemble, 310 21st Street East, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 1M7. Contact for donations is [email protected]. A Celebration of Life will be held for Janie at Windsor Chapel, 704 Windsor St, Saskatoon, SK on June 28th, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements in care of Lisa Ruf - MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (306-978-5200)
