Sharon was born on January 16, 1944, the first child of Harold and Louise Freeman, in North Battleford. She completed her high school at NBCI and received a diploma from the Saskatoon Business College.
Fate intervened by way of a New Year's Eve blind date with a nerdy engineering student. New Years Eve’s were never the same again for Sharon or Norm.
Sharon and Norm were married on May 22, 1965, in North Battleford, After a short honeymoon at the Beaver Hotel they took up residence in Prince Albert the following week.
For Sharon the first years in Prince Albert must have been frantic and scary. During those 4 years we moved five times and she gave birth to Warren and Heather. I don’t know how she coped, especially with a husband who was frequently absent due to work. We finally purchased a home of our own in 1969 and Sharon was able to have a more settled life. Jennifer arrived in 1972 to complete our family.
She briefly worked outside the home in Prince Albert but devoted the rest of her life to the care and support of her family.
In 1988 we moved to Swift Current, leaving behind a newly enlarged and renovated house. That was a difficult move for Sharon and she wanted to move the renovated house to Swift Current.
In 1993 we moved to Saskatoon and purchased our forever home in Eastview where we resided until declining health necessitated a move to Parkville Manor in 2022.
As the children grew and left the nest Sharon devoted her time to gardening, making the grounds of our yards pleasing to the eye and collecting. Collecting soon became a passion and before long she became a familiar face at craft sales, yard sales, estate sales, antique shops, collector shows and auctions. Auctioneers would smile when they saw Sharon in the crowd because Sharon came to believe that bidding was a competitive sport and she was in it to win. While her collections were eclectic, vintage linens, pottery and antique furniture made her eyes light up.
The arrival of grandchildren and all of their activities brought happiness to her life. Visits from the grandkids were eagerly anticipated, noisy, chaotic and joyful occasions.
Sharon liked dogs (especially her grand-dogs) and they loved her. Other likes included desserts, chocolate, Elvis, Roy Orbison, telephone chats and soap operas. Dislikes included mornings, physiotherapy and deadlines.
Throughout her life with all of the upheaval of household moves, normal family issues and long periods being the sole adult in the house she persevered and succeeded in raising three wonderful adults. The last two years of her life were not what she would have wanted but she was mostly content with her circumstance, smiled a lot and was always thanking her caregivers. Behind that pretty face and smile was a tough resilient woman.
We love her and will miss her deeply.
