The family of Margaret Fung Shuk Chun Wong sadly announces the peaceful passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Margaret is lovingly remembered by her sister Wai Pui King in Toronto; her children: George (Rose), Tom (Sue), Lucy, and Jim (Eva); grandchildren Jason (Felicia), Kevin, Eric, Adam, Michael, Tania (Jet), Tammy (Alvin) and Vivienne (Kenneth’s widow); great-grandchildren Tyra, Jamie, Arrian and Nathan. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Stephen, son-in-law Felix, her brother Fung Kwong Yuet, sister Au Shu Jung and her grandson Kenneth.
Margaret was born in Hong Kong on February 18, 1920. She was a loving mother and grandmother, sister and friend. She was an intellectual, capable and caring person who dedicated her life to her family. When Dad died in a soccer accident, Mom was 43. She raised 4 children between the ages of 12 and 18. Mom retired from teaching elementary school when she was 51.
When Margaret was 56, she became a Grandma after the birth of her first grandchild, Jason. She left Hong Kong and Canada became Grandma’s new home base. Tom joined us from Austria in 1978 when he met Sue and they started their family. George and his family moved to Mississauga in 1997. Lucy and her family came from Malaysia for several visits.
Grandma became an important part of Jim’s and Tom’s families. She was well known in the community, attending hockey and ball games, swimming lessons, music recitals and school events. Grandma loved travelling. She had many road trips to many parts of Canada and the US, as well as trips to Hong Kong, Malaysia, and China. A highlight for Grandma was her trip to Europe with Tom.
After a fall and subsequent hip replacement, Grandma lived at the Healthy Life Care Home for the last 15 months. We would like to thank Hilbert and Grace and their staff for their excellent care of Grandma. We would also like to thank the wonderful nurses and doctors at St. Paul’s Hospital and Royal University Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favourite charity.
