It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Allen Sasbrink-Harkema on June 2, 2025, at the age of 43. Born September 3, 1981, in Uden, Netherlands, Allen moved to Canada with his family in 1984 following the passing of his father, Martien Sasbrink-Harkema. He spent most of his life in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, where he built a life full of love, laughter, and connection.
He is survived by his children, Sietse and Sophia Sasbrink-Harkema, who were the pride and joy of his life; his loving mother, Joyce Sasbrink-Harkema; his brother, Ash Sasbrink-Harkema (Danielle) and their children Korben, Nolan, and Harper; his sister, Sascha Sasbrink-Harkema (Ed), his brother Blair Peepeetch (Diane) and their children John, Chico and Brandy and the mother of his children, Char Sasbrink-Harkema. He was predeceased by his father, Martien Sasbrink-Harkema.
Allen was a devoted and loving father to his children and will be remembered for his sharp mind, irresistible charm, and big heart. He had a unique gift for solving problems, fixing just about anything, and lifting the spirits of everyone around him. Whether with a quick-witted joke, a gourmet meal, or his infectious energy—Allen made people feel seen, welcomed, and loved. He was charismatic, often impeccably dressed, and effortlessly the life of every party.
He had a deep love for music, which was always playing in the background of his life—whether he was cooking, working, or just spending time with loved ones. Music brought him joy and helped fuel the vibrant spirit that made him who he was.
Allen attended school at St. Marguerite Elementary School, E.D. Feehan High School and Mount Royal High School where he made many life-long friendships.
Professionally, Allen worked with dedication for the City of Saskatoon at the water treatment plant. He was admired for his work ethic, intelligence, and knack for troubleshooting even the toughest challenges. Outside of work, he was a passionate cook, a loyal friend, and a true presence—someone who could always make you laugh and feel at home.
His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends, coworkers, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
The family invites you to honor Allen’s memory by sharing a laugh, cooking something delicious, playing your favorite song, or raising a glass to the beautiful, spirited life he lived. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 14 at St. Patrick’s Parish at 11:30am.
