Sydney James Hill

Sydney James Hill of Delisle, Saskatchewan passed away at Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre on Friday, October 20, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Syd was born in Delisle on February 24, 1940. A good portion of his life was spent farming the land and he was deeply rooted to his community. He was a builder and prime mover in the community. Syd left a legacy in the town of Delisle. He was a pioneer in the building of the Delisle Arena, the Delsa Salad Plant (Keybrand), and The Delisle Golf Course. Syd took his son Dan’s dream of building a Golf Course in Delisle and made it a reality. He was a community leader as he served as the mayor and as a town council member.

Syd was a family man, avid curler, and great friend to many. He enjoyed golfing, spending his winters with his wife Bea in Arizona, countless Happy Hours and friendships they acquired over the years.

Left to celebrate his life are his loving wife of 63 years Beatrice, his son Jim (Kim) of Airdrie, daughter in law Jami (Darryl) of Delisle, grandchildren Chelsea (Blake), Brittni (Corey), Reid, Carissa (Chase), Murray (Chelsea), and Scott. His step-grandchildren Jordan (Kaley), Stephanie (Chris) and Caitlin (James), and his 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Don (Penny), sisters Sandra (Kendall), and Arlene (Randy), his brothers-in-law Gord, Arlo (Sally), Johnny, Charlie (Judy), Art (Sandra), his sisters-in-law Gloria (Lynn), and June along with countless nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents Jim and Florence, his son Danny, his sister Shirley and her daughter Rhonda, his mother and father-in-law Wilmer and Edna Goodwin, his sisters-in-law Lavona (George), Pearl (Fred), his brothers-in-law Leverne, Byron (Shirley), and niece Robin.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Sunnyside Adventist Care Home for their exceptional care and compassion during his years there.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Syd’s memory will be graciously accepted to the Delisle Golf Course c/o the Town of Delisle, PO Box 40 Delisle SK, S0L0P0, cheques may be made out to the Town of Delisle with a memo in memory of Sydney Hill.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023 in the Delisle United Church followed by a Celebration of Life at the Delisle Senior Center.
