THERESIA PAULINE CARSON nee GERWING. She passed away peacefully on April 11, 2022.
Theresia was born June 7, 1928 to Joseph & Anna (nee Gessner) Gerwing, who raised 8 children on their family farm in Lake Lenore, SK.
She was the last living child of that family - predeceased by her Brothers - Leo, Herman, Alfred & Joseph Jr. Gerwing, as well as her Sisters - Elizabeth Hogemann, Clara Doyle (Walz) & Veronica Shedlosky.
She married Joseph G. Wisser on November 18, 1947. They worked a small farm close to Humboldt for 3 years. Then Joe landed a good job at a large iron ore dredging operation in Atikokan, Ont. That’s where they were living when, in 1954, Joe drowned during a fishing trip and Theresia was left with 3 small children – Sharon, Doreen & Jim. Theresia moved back to Lake Lenore where her ‘Pa’ and her brothers & sisters gave her the help and support she needed.
In 1956 she married Donald A. Mamer. They continued to make Lake Lenore their home. Don was very talented in all areas of carpentry but he excelled at finishing work and cabinet making. Theresia and Don had 6 children together - Ron, Glen, Bob, TerryAnn, Russ & Troy. They parted ways in 1970.
In 1974 Mom, brave as always, packed up her 5 youngest children (who were still living at home with her) and moved to Saskatoon. There she bought an older 3 story house. She was very ambitious…. working full time at Larsen House while attending classes at Siast, where she successfully earned her GED. Theresia then went on to train with a Qualified Electrolysis Technician whose business she soon purchased. For many years she earned a very good living doing Electrolysis out of her home - so well, in fact, that she was able to upgrade to newer houses twice during the following several years.
Donald passed away in 1980 from a very rare disease - Ehlers Danlos 4, which also claimed two of their sons - Bob in 2004 and Glen in 2015.
As life went on, she continued to suffer many more heartaches - the loss of ex-daughter in law Adele Wisser (Jim), the loss of two infant granddaughters - Kimberly Mamer (Ron & Patti) and Kendi Mamer (Russ & Tracy), as well as a grandson, Reg Rolfes (Sharon). In his lifetime, Reg & his Gramma wore out many decks of cards playing games they both loved!
In 1981 Theresia married James Carson and along with that marriage she gained 3 step children - Glenn, Bruce and Val. She thrived on doing things for all of her children - now a full dozen!!! She had an amazing capacity for showing her love and all of us loved her in return! Patti Mamer, Ron’s wife, coined the most appropriate phrase:
‘ONE WOMAN……..SO MUCH LOVE’ … and we use it often!
After their marriage, Jim and Theresia resided in Esterhazy, where he worked at the Potash Mine until he retired. They then moved to Winfield, BC where they enjoyed the warmer climate and the camaraderie of the many other retirees living in that community. While living in Winfield, Mom learned to Line Dance. She had always loved any & all kinds of dancing and the Line Dancing Club gave her the perfect opportunity to dance to her heart’s content. Jim and Theresia lived in Winfield for approximately 5 years, but they missed their families, so they moved back to Saskatchewan where they purchased and remodeled a house in Delisle. We all enjoyed many fantastic meals and fun times in that home, celebrating Feast Days, Birthdays, etc. When Jim’s health began to fail they decided they needed to be closer to health care so they sold their Delisle home and moved into Saskatoon. Jim passed away in 2003.
Shortly thereafter, Theresia moved into Luther Towers in Saskatoon. Mom was always a very outgoing person so she easily made many friends at ‘the Tower’. She played bridge, baked her amazing chiffon cakes for many of their Birthdays, held small dinner parties, called bingo, helped organize their Annual Bazaars, etc. She was truly the ‘Life of the Party’!
In 2019 her COPD and Congestive Heart Failure began to take their toll, so her children helped her move into the River’s Edge Villa in St. Louis, Sk. They decorated her new little ‘suite’, (as she called it), with many of the meaningful treasures and keepsakes she had accumulated over the years. They filled her walls with pictures of her loved ones - husbands, siblings, children, grandchildren, friends and more. She was content and quite comfortable there, and, until COVID hit the world, she always had a steady stream of friends and family visiting her or taking her out for a weekend of love, good food, card playing and reminiscing.
As with many Seniors during the pandemic, Mom became very lonely during the long lockdown periods that all Senior Care Homes were required to enforce. Thankfully she had become quite efficient on her IPad - a gift she had received from her children on her 85th birthday - and Facetime enabled her to see and talk with her loved ones, which, although great, never really replaced the HUGS she craved!
Mom was just 2 months shy of her 94th Birthday when she became ill and was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Prince Albert. She was a patient there for 2 weeks, and then during an afternoon nap, she peacefully made her way to Heaven to join all the ‘loved ones’ she had waiting for her there! And even though she had told us on many occasions over the previous couple of years that she felt ready for the Good Lord to take her, those of us left behind still mourn our loss!
