May 13, 1931 – January 2, 2015
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Vic Godbout on January 2, 2015 at the age of 83. He died peacefully at home surrounded with family at his side as he had wished. Vic was born and raised in Marcelin, SK. to Jean Bapiste Godbout and Bertha (Watier) Godbout. He found his calling in construction which marked the beginning of his life long career as a builder. His first job was with Searle Grain repairing and building houses and annexes throughout the prairie provinces. It’s during these early years that he met the love of his life Sylvia and they married in 1953. In 1959 they moved to Saskatoon and Vic began working as a superintendent for Boychuck Homes. This was soon followed by his desire to become self employed and he created and co-owned Style Rite Homes Ltd. During the next several decades he was fully involved building houses, apartments, schools and commercial buildings both in Saskatoon and Mackenzie BC. His passion was building along with sharing his knowledge with people surrounding him. Perfection and detail were always a must if he was involved in anything built within the trade, leaving behind him a legacy of work accomplished in his lifetime.
His sport of passion was playing pool and he will fondly be remembered for every opportunity to pick up his cue and head to the pool table which in later years led him to play several tournaments in Las Vegas. He was most happy behind the wheel of a car or his motor home. He enjoyed his time at the lake in Waskesiu along with wintering in Arizona and Hawaii. It was always obvious that he and Sylvia loved each other dearly as they were affectionately known as the ‘Love Birds’.
Vic will be forever cherished by his wife of 61 years Sylvia (Kasun) Godbout and children, Aline (Rick) Hunter, Gayle Ord, Rolly Godbout, Cindy (Lee) Tetreault, Kay-Del Godbout and his grandchildren, Jaclyn, Alicia, Desiree, Bryce, Simone, Noel, Armand, Danielle, Tanner, Connor, and Evan and great grandchildren, Jenna, Lexi, Cole, Carter, Emmy, Thomas, Nora, Gordie and Turner. He will also be lovingly remembered by his sister, Therese, brothers, Al (Claudette), Clem (Eileen) and many nieces, nephews and their extended families. He was predeceased by his parents, and sisters, Donalda, Blanche, Clemence and Rose and his brothers, Roland, Fernand, Richard and Marcel.
Memorial donations may be made to the Queen’s House of Retreats (601 Taylor St W. Saskatoon). Vigil for Victor will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday January 16th, 2015 and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17th, 2015. Both services to be held at St. Philip Neri Parish, Saskatoon (corner of Taylor & Munroe Ave).
