Victoria passed away peacefully at St. Ann’s Nursing Home on December 4, 2019, at the age of 93. Victoria was born in Jedburgh, SK on April 29, 1926. She married John Kowalchuk on March 11, 1945 and farmed 2 ½ miles north of Kelliher, SK. They retired in 1978 to Saskatoon and Victoria worked at Sherbrooke Nursing Home for 11 years. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, writing letters, crocheting afghans, growing house plants, and lately she crocheted prayer shawls. Victoria was raised Ukrainian Catholic and she had a fervent faith. While at St. Ann’s, she attended Mass, Rosary and Hymn Sing regularly. Victoria loved to smile. In fact, she had the unusual ability to make others around her smile too. We will miss her bright and joyful spirit. Victoria is lovingly remembered by her children Georgina Grand (David Thomas), Caroline Fitzpatrick and Leonard (Christine) Kowalchuk; grandchildren Tanya (Josh) Ogilvie, Tyler Grand (Erin), Jason Fitzpatrick, Ryan, Carlin, and Janelle Kowalchuk; great-grandchildren Kayden and Alia. She was predeceased by her husband John, parents Esak and Miranda Kitzul, granddaughter Tracey Grand, sons-in-law Ken Grand and Lyle Fitzpatrick, and 12 brothers and sisters. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church (602 Boychuk Dr.) in Saskatoon with Very Rev. Fr. Kevin McGee as Celebrant. The Rite of Committal will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to St. Ann’s Senior Citizens’ Village (2910 Louise St, Saskatoon, SK S7J 3L8). The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Ann’s Home for their loving care of Victoria.
