June 27, 1942 – November 27, 2012
It is with great sorrow and love we announce the passing of our Father Walter (Wally) Tabashniuk. He passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2012 after a brief illness at Royal University Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents Josephine and Math Tabashniuk and sister Vera. Wally is survived by his wife Joyce, his two sons Kevin and Kurtis (Megan) and grandchildren Braxton, Josh, Austin, and Carson as well as Wally’s two brothers Edd (Dee) and Gordon (Carol), and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many good friends and acquaintances. Wally’s love of sports at an early age was a major influence for the rest of his life. He played hockey, fastball, and curling for most of his youth and then with the birth of his sons, lead him into coaching. His experience as a coach caused him to be an influence on the lives of many youths even now. He ended up coaching several future NHL players who many themselves followed in his footsteps to coach today. Wally had a varied career in many endeavors from teaching, the Saskatoon City Police Force, to even insurance sales. He eventually became a sales Rep. He loved his job and the people he met all across the province as well as the country. There isn’t a small town in the province that doesn’t know Wally from either sports or his travels as a salesman. He thought of his players and customers as “extended family”. It was difficult to find someone he didn’t care about. Wally loved to travel as well as stay home with his family. His favorite thing to say was “family first”. He made sure that everything he experienced he shared with the people he loved. He worked hard his whole life and never wanted to retire because he loved being around people talking about work, sports, or later in life, his grandchildren. There was a Celebration of Wally’s life and Funeral held on Wednesday, December 5th, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 217 Lenore Drive 931-4700. Arrangements were entrusted to Penny Aadland of Acadia-McKague’s Funeral Centre 955-1600.
