August 20, 1942 - October 22, 2015
Leo was the firstborn of seven children of Thomas Vincent Stock and Marie Léa Juliette (Juliet) Michaud. Born at Loon Lake, SK, he moved from the farm at Makwa with his parents and brother Charlie to the Cochrane farm west of Young along the CNR main line, in 1944. His early years were spent at the farm, where he got to know his grandfather Will Stock and uncles Charlie and Jim as they worked together with Tom the first few years. His grandmother Jane (Hussey) Stock was very influential in his life, as was her Catholic faith. Leo was a very bright child, taking his schooling up to Grade 11 in Young, then two years at St. Peter's College at Muenster, followed by an Arts degree at the University of Saskatchewan. Although very shy, he studied to join the priesthood with encouragement from priests and family. The pressure of taking on a leadership role for a self-conscious individual got the best of him and he was overcome with depression, and he had to leave the seminary in Ottawa. He worked at various construction jobs before returning to the farm, where he worked with his father and brother Rene. He enjoyed curling, reading, playing cards, fishing, carpentry, visiting with people and following current events. After his father's passing in 1989 he took over the farm until he sold in 2002. He continued to reside on the farm site until 2008 when he moved into the basement suite of his brother and sister-in-law Rene and Joan, in Saskatoon. Leo was predeceased by his parents Tom (1989), Juliet (2007), brother Charlie (2003) and sister Marie (2011). He is survived by sister Jeanette (Greg Schoenau) and niece Jennifer (Mark Woodburn) great-nephew Maxwell, and nephew Paul (Lindsay Froess) great-nephews Tate and Finn, great-niece Ella; brother Rene (Joan Teneycke) and niece Monique (Ken Tenszen) great-nieces Charlotte and Jasmine, nephew Michael (Cynthia Springer) great-nephew Matthew and great-nieces Gabriella and Anna, nephew Geoffrey (Diana Richards), and niece Ashley; brother Bernie (Jayne Scotland) and nephews David and Justin; and sister Karen (Bob Guldbrandsen). The family extends a special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Paul's Hospital for their compassion and generosity over the past few months of Leo's life. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday October 29, 10:30 AM at Holy Spirit Church, 114 Kingsmere Place, Saskatoon, with Rev. Fr. Darryl Millette as celebrant, followed by lunch. Donations may be directed to the Saskatchewan Genealogical Society, 110 – 1514 11th Avenue, Regina SK S4P 0H2.
