2026. She passed away peacefully at Oliver Lodge in Saskatoon.
Winnifred was born Winnifred Mae Pennington on July 5, 1938, in Burns Lake, British Columbia, to Irvin and Edna Pennington, who predeceased her. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Douglas Gail (predeceased): her sisters Barb and Audrey; her nieces and nephew; as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Winnifred's family moved to Lucky Lake when she was a child, where they began farming. As she grew older, she began taking piano lessons, a passion that she carried with her throughout her life. In her early twenties, she met and married Wayne Shirley, and in 1961 they welcomed their son, Douglas. The couple later divorced.
Winnifred had a wonderful sense of adventure and greatly enjoyed travelling the world, often with friends and sometimes on her own. Germany was one of her favorite places to visit. In her retirement years, she enjoyed spending time with the Red Hat Society, shopping at Value Village, and, most importantly, sharing time with family and friends.
A Celebration of Winnifred's Life will be held in early summer.
The family will share further details once confirmed.
