

Alan is now reunited with his wife Betty Carscadden (nee Agnew). Devoted father to Andy (Sharon Doyle) of Windsor, Mark (Laurie Jackson) of Georgetown, and David (Lissa, nee Mount) of Barrie. He will be forever cherished by his grandchildren, Amanda and Keith (Sabrina Huston), Cailyn and Liam, and Jack and Alexa.
Predeceased by his parents John Melville “Mel” Carscadden and Mabel Eunice Marie Carscadden (nee Ewing). Dear brother of the late Terry Carscadden (Sylvia), and the late Robert “Bob” Carscadden (late Norma). Son-in-law of the late John Charles “Charlie” Agnew and the late Jane Scott “Jennie” Agnew (nee Acheson). Brother-in-law of the late William “Bill” (Barbara) and the late John Agnew. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Alan was a strong and supportive principal of numerous elementary schools in the Sault and area, spending the last two decades of his career at Alex Muir, a school at which his father had previously been the principal.
Alan, along with Betty, was a loving parent to his three boys, nurturing their character while making education a priority. Their unwavering support allowed their children to take chances and pursue their goals with confidence.
An excellent athlete in his younger days, Alan excelled, particularly in basketball, baseball, and hockey, and later took up curling.
He also loved watching his boy’s activities and supported the Soo Greyhounds as a season ticket holder.
Alan was an active, influential member of the congregation of Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder and Clerk of Session, as well as being a long standing, strong voice in the choir.
He was also a 58-year member of the Northland Chorus of the Barbershop Harmony Society, where he sang in quartets, acted as president, and earned Barbershopper of the year honours more than once.
Family and friends are invited to visit at Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St East, 705-759-2522) on Friday, October 17, 2025, between 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm & 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm. Funeral Service will take place at Westminster Presbyterian Church (134 Brock Street) on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 11:00 am with Rev. John and Charlene Wilson. Following the service Alan will be laid to rest with Betty at Greenwood Cemetery. Reception to follow at the Delta Hotel (208 St. Mary’s Drive).
