Beloved son of the late Margaret and Randall (Randy) Saunders. Father of Taylor (Nick), Samara, and Mikayla. Grandfather of two little boys, Ares and Julian.
Chris lived a vibrant and adventurous life, one that took him across three provinces he called home: British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario. Born in Ontario on May 2nd, 1966, Chris spent his childhood there before heading west with friends after high school to begin new adventures in British Columbia.
In his younger adult years, Chris found excitement in drag racing, parasailing, and, above all, music. A talented guitarist and singer, he played in bands throughout his life, sharing his passion and energy with everyone who listened. He welcomed his first daughter, Taylor, in Kamloops; his second daughter, Samara, in Calgary; and his third daughter, Mikayla, in Sault Ste. Marie.
Chris eventually returned to settle in “the Soo,” where he embraced the things he loved most—the freedom of riding his street bike, the peacefulness of being out on the water boating, and his love of competition carried into slot car racing at the Moose Lodge, where he built lasting friendships. His dedication to the slot car community and his joy for the simple pleasures of life will long be remembered. Among friends, Chris was fondly known as “Hollywood” and “Stern” nicknames that captured his larger-than-life presence and his fun rock-n-roll spirit.
He will be greatly missed by his loyal companion, his dog Zoey, who is now happily living with cousin Laurie. Chris is survived by his Uncle Chester, with whom he shared a deep and special bond, and will be fondly remembered by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews from the Ritchie, St. John, and Baird families. He will also be deeply missed by his best friend, Paul Bouchard.
Chris will be remembered for his love of music, cars, and his adventurous spirit. His ashes will be laid to rest together with his beloved first dog, Jake, forever by his side.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East 705-759-2522). Memorial contributions made payable online or by cheque to the Canadian Cancer Society in honour of his parents would be greatly appreciated. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Saunders family.
