It is with deep sorrow and immense love that we announce the passing of Tom Desjardin, a devoted husband, proud father, cherished papa, and pillar of his community.
Tom was married to his best friend, Lori, for nearly 45 years, though their love story began long before that—they had been together since their early teenage years. Their bond was one of deep friendship, loyalty, and unwavering love, a true partnership that stood as an example to all who knew them.
He was a proud and loving father to Kris (Amy) and Lacey (David), and an adoring Papa to Heath, Deegan, Trent, Reilly, and Phoenix. Tom’s love for his family ran deep and fierce, and he took great pride in each of them. His guidance, strength, and steady presence will live on through the generations he helped shape.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Edith Desjardin, and his sister Jacqueline Desjardin whom he held close in his heart. He leaves behind his brother Donnie Deschamps, his in-laws Kirsten and Tom Young, Erin Lawrence, Tylar and Laura Thorkilson and the late Mike Daynard.
A man of service and integrity, Tom gave so much to his community. He proudly served as Reeve of the Village of Hilton Beach, playing an instrumental role in the expansion of the village marina into what it is today. His dedication and vision helped leave a lasting mark on the community he loved so dearly.
Tom was the owner and operator of Desjardin Construction, where his strong work ethic, honesty, and pride in craftsmanship were evident in everything he did.
Together, Tom and Lori are the proud owners of the Hilton Beach Tourist Park, a place that became far more than a business. It was where countless friendships were formed, memories were made, and families gathered year after year. The park family was Tom’s happy place—everyone there held a special place in his heart, and he considered them family. The family would like to acknowledge Tom's dear friend and "right hand" George Nute for his years of friendship and support.
A true outdoorsman, Tom loved sharing stories of his days as a trapper, fisherman, and hunter. He found great joy in teaching his son, and later his grandsons, the ways of the outdoors—passing down not only skills, but respect for nature, patience, and tradition.
Tom was a proud man who loved fiercely. His generosity, leadership, and unwavering devotion to family and community will never be forgotten. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the memories he created, and the love he gave so freely.
As per the family's request a Come & Go Celebration of Life in Tom's honour will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm at the Marconi Hall, Sault Ste. Marie. Arrangements Entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East; 705-759-2522). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations (made payable by cheque) to the St. Mary's College Secondary School Football Association would be greatly appreciated by the family.
