We are saddened to announce that Denis passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Sault Area Hospital, shortly after celebrating his 85th birthday.
Denis is survived by his loving wife of nearly 58 years, Geraldine; his two sons, Raymond and his wife Danielle, and their daughters Nicole and Jenna; and Daniel and his wife Joanne, and their children Gabrielle, Fiona, and Henri. He was predeceased by his parents, Antonin and Jeanne, and his older brothers Rolly (late Lorette) and Gerry (late Jeannine). He is lovingly remembered by his younger sisters, Edith Stephenson (late Larry) and Carole Anderson (late Andy). Denis is also survived by his in-laws, Cathy Johnson (late Lynn), Mary “Lou” Richert, Jack McGrath, and Linda (late Donna), as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
Denis enjoyed a 31-year career with Shell Canada, beginning as a fuel oil delivery driver and retiring as Plant Superintendent for Sault Ste. Marie and Parry Sound. He often said he worked for the best company, at the best of times.
A proud member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 932, Denis deeply valued the fellowship of his brother knights, especially the time spent volunteering at the Pasta Suppers. He found great joy in curling, golfing, and skiing, and treasured the friendships formed through his teams and groups.
Family was central to Denis’s life. Time spent with his grandchildren was always a highlight, and he loved hearing about their lives and accomplishments. He was always willing to lend a hand and had a gift for fixing just about anything. Denis also loved to travel. He and Gerri were fortunate to take many trips with their travel trailer and enjoyed spending several winters in Florida.
The family would like to thank the staff in Emergency, Dr. Mundar, and especially the kind and compassionate RNs and PSWs on 3C at SAH. A special thank you to the Bayshore PSWs, particularly Sarah and Lisa, who helped Denis remain at home, and to Melissa from Outreach Support with the Alzheimer Society.
Friends and family are invited to gather at Precious Blood Cathedral (778 Queen Street East) on Saturday, July 12, 2025, for Funeral Mass at 10 am, officiated by Fr. Hamish Currie. Friends are invited to view the service online starting at 10:00 am and can be viewed anytime up to 90 days, go to www.funeraweb.tv and select Denis's name. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations (payable by cheque or online) to the Alzheimer Society or Precious Blood Cathedral would be greatly appreciated.
