Thank you: To our wonderful friends who welcomed Jimmy, into our circles of friends and supported us.. many joined our video chats. To our Wawa friends who facilitated our visits to Sault Ste. Mare and assisted as caregivers: Bonnie and Reg Richardson, Nina and Billy Pico, and Gary and Heather Wendstrom who are still doing the hands on after care duties in the Sault. We are very grateful for the care that Jimmy received at the nursing homes in Sault Ste.Marie, and at the hospital. I personally wish to thank the staff at the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel. They have been so kind and patient as we navigate our way through the arrangements. Ken you need to be told, again, how you have helped me.
Jimmy was born in Saskatchewan, but we moved to Wawa when he was a few months old. He was the cutest baby ever, especially after his milk allergy was diagnosed and he quickly became curly-haired and chubby. The youngest of five siblings, we used to drag him everywhere with his quilt. It wasn't a baby quilt, but a heavy, full-size, homemade quilt. We have many wonderful memories and pictures of these happy times. Though he struggled in school, he graduated from Michipicoten High School with honors. For many years he worked at Algoma Ore Properties and then Algoma Steel when the mine closed. He was well-liked and very hard worker who came to work very early to socialize. Everyone knew and liked Jimmy. Walking down Broadway Avenue, virtually everyone spoke, waved or honked. When he moved to the Sault, it was the same at the mall. Jimmy traveled often to visit his sisters and families, and we sure had some great times. In the Sault he also met and married Cheryl. He continued to work hard at his job, and in and around his house. He had found a new family whom he loved dearly. Due to circumstances and the complication of Parkinson's disease, in 2020, he moved to Cedarwood Lodge, where he lived (making another wonderful group of friends and caregivers) until he moved to the F. J. Davey Home in early 2021. He enjoyed these years at the Davey House (as we called it) where he was well-cared for by the staff who became his new friends. Many of these caregivers loved him and expressed it in many ways, including confiding to me that he was their favourite. It was obvious that he loved them. So many people, far and wide will miss him but we take comfort in knowing that he is now pain-free and at rest in heaven, to be reunited with our mom and dad, brother Joe and another huge group of family and friends.
