Loving wife of William "Bud" Gagnon of 55 years. Beloved mother of Catherine Lorraine Gagnon (Jaret Malloy). Cherished grandma of Mackenna, Curran and Ardyn Malloy. Step-sister of Judy Chevalier (Gerry) of Vancouver. Sister-in-law of Geraldine Ciotte (Norman), Merle Gagnon, Lynda Perham (Norman) and Brenda Gagnon. Daughter of the late Taimi Brooks (late Albert) and the late Harry Stirton (late Margaret). Special friends to Jim Dipasquale and Andie Fraser. Loving friend of Scott and Kari Nechville, and Mimi to their kids Luke and Grace. She will be greatly missed by countless friends, nieces and nephews.
Joyce started as a candy striper in the Blind River hospital before coming to Sault Ste. Marie to get her RN. She worked as an emergency nurse in both Sault Ste. Marie and Vancouver. After a few years, she went back to the University of Windsor for her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, before moving back to Sault Ste. Marie to teach others her passion of nursing at Sault College. She later became a VON Nurse and eventually became the manager of the Red Cross Homemakers. After her retirement, she volunteered her time at the Alzheimer Society and Christmas Cheer.
Joyce had a special way of making everyone feel welcome, being known as the 'Neighbourhood Mom'. When she wasn't making her famous cookies, she would be found outside working in her garden. Her yard full of flowers and birds gave her such joy. The thing that made her the happiest though was her grandchildren and the many winters spent with family in San Diego.
Joyce loved going for walks and petting every dog along the way, she loved new adventures and spending time with friends.
Think of Joyce every time you stop to smell the flowers, pet a dog or watch a bird. She will be there with you.
