Rita Acciavatti passed away peacefully on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the remarkable age of 104. Born on June 27, 1921, Rita lived a long, joyful life filled with music, love, and laughter.
Beloved wife of the late Frank Acciavatti, Rita is survived by her devoted daughter Laura Candido (Norm), her cherished grandchildren Jason Candido (Lauren) and Brian Candido (Tricia), and her adored great-grandchildren Xander, Vedder, Ryker, and Nicolo, who lovingly knew her as “Old Grandma.” Rita will be remembered fondly by her special niece Teresa Gavin, as well as Christine and Joelle Litalien.
Guided by her deep love for music, Rita was grateful to find her lifelong passion and talent growing up singing with her brothers Carse and Jack Sneddon. After moving to Sault Ste. Marie with her husband Frank, Rita continued to share her gift, performing regularly at the Palm Gardens and later with the Diamond Jubilee Band at the Legion Hall and the Happy Days Band at the Verdi Hall. Even in her final days, she could be found at the piano, filling the hearts of those around her with her music.
Rita’s warmth, talent, and spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Her family would like to extend special thanks to all the caregivers who supported her with love and dignity in her later years including Dr. Taylor, the March of Dimes PSWs Nancy, Nicole, Tracey and others. We would also like to thank the staff at Extendicare Mapleview for their care and compassion, especially Linda, Colleen, Glenda, Tiffany, Kim, Tara, Crystal, Jenna, Gurvinder, Moxa, Abhiya, Fritzie.
A private celebration of Rita’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations (made payable by cheque or online) to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice would be greatly appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St E, 705-759-2522). Fond memories and expressions of sympathy can be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the family.
Life is a song, let's sing it together
Let's take our hearts, end it then in rhyme
Let's learn the words, let's learn the music together
Hoping the song lasts for a long, long time
