

Peter Ian Dwyer was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Peter will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Marie, Ontario. He was the son of June Peace Sagle and Russell Melvin Dywer. Peter grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
Peter was raised with 3. He had Linda Brock, Terry Dwyer and Lee-anne Hillstrom. Peter was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
As a young boy, Peter had a number of interests. Like most children, he enjoyed playing and making up games. He was curious about the world around him and was often eager to explore it. Peter was an active child who took part in curling and baseball. In his spare time he liked fishing and hunting. However, to Peter, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his friends.
A typical teenager, Peter had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. He enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers. His favorite class in high school was recess.
Always considered a “good” friend to those he knew, Peter enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime. While growing up, some of his best friends were Ernie Kapfer, Barry Shellborn, David Hull, and Wim Vanderklif. Later in life, he became friends with everyone.
On April 14th 1979 Peter exchanged wedding vows with Shirley Mae Mcfarlane at Wawa, Ontario of Ontario. Empathic and loyal, Peter was committed to making his new family happy.
Peter worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Peter was blessed with 2, Russell Garry Dwyer and Kevin Andrew Dwyer. Another blessing for Peter was the gift of 2, Rebecca Kahlan Dwyer and Aria Donna-Judi Saranic.
Fortunately, Peter enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Peter worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was locomotive engineer. He was employed for 30 years by Algoma Central Railway. Peter always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Peter enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were fishing, hunting and playing poker. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share his interests with others.
Peter found pleasure in sports. In high school, Peter played curling. Recreational sports included baseball for the ACR Bears. Peter was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he had the chance to do so. Top on his list was baseball.
Peter was a man who took pride in upholding his beliefs. So it is little wonder that he took an active role in his community, serving on committees for the Hawk Junction Local Services Board.
Peter’s faith was important to him. He was a member Willowgrove United Church.
Peter enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for him to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacation included travelling to Florida.
Peter was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. One of his favorites was Dusty the dog. They were best friends for 14. His family was rounded out by his cat Colonel Klink.
When Peter’s retirement finally arrived in Long term disability February 1st 1997, he was well prepared. His new life involved relocating from Hawk Junction to Sault Ste. Marie. In retirement, he found new pleasure in going to camp and visiting the casino. Even in retirement, Peter continued to stay in touch with his old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. Peter was active in his new community and felt fulfilled with the opportunities retirement offered him.
Peter passed away on September 15, 2022 at Sault Area Hospital, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Peter fought a brave battle against pneumonia. He is survived by Shirley, Russell, Kevin, Rebecca, Aria, Andrea, and Lee-anne. Services were held at Arthur Funeral Home. Peter was laid to rest at Lower Island Lake and Hawk Junction.
Simply stated, Peter was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Peter leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Peter Ian Dwyer.

DWYER, Peter Ian - Passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Sault Area Hospital on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at the age of 71.
Beloved husband of Shirley Dwyer (nee McFarlane) for 43 years. Loving father of Russell Dwyer (Andrea Johnson) and Kevin Dwyer. Proud grandpa of Rebecca Dwyer and Aria Saranic. Predeceased by his parents June (nee Sagle) and Russell Dwyer. Dear brother of Lee Anne Hillstrom (Garth) and predeceased by Linda Brock (Ben), and Terry Dwyer. Son-in-law of Garry and Patricia (nee Wallace) McFarlane. Brother-in-law of Sheila Cyr (Normand), Douglas McFarlane, and Donna McFarlane. Cherished uncle of Sheryl, Valerie, Jennifer, Pamela, and Matthew and great uncle to many wonderful nieces and nephews. Peter will be missed and fondly remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East 705-759-2522) on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 between 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm. Funeral Service to take place in the Chapel at 3:00 pm with Mrs. Helen Smith officiating. Memorial contributions to Canadian Cancer Society or ARCH would be greatly appreciated.
