Beloved husband to Janet of 54 years. Caring father of Rebecca (Andrew Uschenko) and Peter (Sarah). Proud grandfather of Adam, Nathan, Jack and Miles. Brother of George, late Gordon, June, Blair and Janice. Brother-in-law of Joanne Cowley (late Gerry), Brian Bonne (Tracey) and Alan Bonne. Long time special friend of Genie Jones and Eric Cove.
Richard began his career as a stationary engineer at the "Bug Lab" working his way up to Facility Manager through the years. He could usually be found whistling around the noise of machinery and cracking jokes.
He enjoyed learning and in the evenings spent many hours studying and attending night school courses at Sault College. He found joy in music lessons with Nino at DiPasquo School of Music playing the accordion, while his son Peter took organ lessons. He also treasured volunteering with Bandettes drum corp as a bus driver and cook.
In retirement there were travels to the East and West coast of Canada, Alaska, Disney World, and Grand Canyon as well as Pancake Bay camping holidays. Most recently, his grandsons high school music performances and football were his entertainment when he wasn't puttering in the garage.
From the time they started dating, into retirement, Richard and Janet were regularly seen walking together until health issues intervened.
His recent illness was unexpected. We wish to thank Dr. Waqas, Dr. Tian Xiao, and Dr. Buehner for their timely and compassionate care. We would also like to extend thanks to Motion Equipment, Palliative Care Nurses (Marcie and Theresa), ARCH (Jac, Jan, Heather) as well as those behind the scenes for keeping him comfortable.
Family and friends are invited to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East; 705-759-2522) on Thursday, April 23, 2026 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
