Stacey began his journey to the Spirit World on Monday, February 23, 2026, at the young age of 55.
Stacey, a loving and devoted father to Danika (Cory), Jerrica (Bro-D), Kiana (Adam), Nathan (Sabrina), and Mika (Jonah), and a proud Mishomis of Nash and Millie. Beloved son of Pearl Cress (nee Zack). Cherished brother of the late Curtis “Curt” (wife Tina), Sherry, Ronnie, Terry (Angie), Michael, Cory, Lisa (Bob), and the late Annie. Dear grandson of the late Vincent Zack and the late Sophie Zack (nee Belleau). Stacey’s warmth, humor, and kindness will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will also be remembered with love by his friends, especially his closest lifelong friends, Kim, Ray, Paul, Billy, and Mike.
The family would like to express gratitude to Dr. Tian Xiao and Dr. Sharon Buehner, to his nurses, Louise and Madeline, who worked closely with him, and to his entire care team at the Sault Area Hospital for their dedicated and compassionate care.
Stacey was a proud member of Garden River First Nation – Ketegaunseebee, and he was honoured to return home to serve as Chief Administrative Officer. His leadership was always rooted in community, carried with humility, and marked by a readiness to listen, learn, observe, and meet people where they were. Guided by a deep love for his Nation and a commitment to wellness, he believed that true leadership comes from understanding and working together. In both his life and his work, he lived by the teachings of the Seven Grandfathers: wisdom, love, respect, bravery, honesty, humility, and truth. The initiatives he helped bring forward will continue to strengthen and uplift the community he cherished so deeply.
Stacey found joy in life’s simple, meaningful moments. He loved being outdoors, playing golf, chasing sunsets, and sharing walks with the boys, Kenai and Koda. A good slice of pizza and a cold Coke always brought a smile to his face. Wherever he went, the sound of The Tragically Hip could often be heard with him. Stacey was always working on a home renovation. With so many ideas in mind, he often moved on to the next project before finishing the current one. His children would jokingly call it “Stacey Complete”.
A celebration of life will take place at the Garden River Community Center on Saturday, March 7, 2026 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

First thing we'd climb a tree
And maybe then we'd talk
Or sit silently
And listen to our thoughts
With illusions of someday
Cast in a golden light
No dress rehearsal
This is our life
