

Walter Leslie McKay was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Walter Leslie will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Walter Leslie was born on May 28, 1934 at Matthew's Memorial Hospital in Richards Landing, St Joseph Island, Ontario. He was the son of George and Margaret McKay. Walter Leslie grew up in Richards Landing, St Joseph Island.
Walter Leslie was raised with Three. He had 2 sisters Georgina, Loreena and one brother Marvyn all of whom are younger. Walter Leslie was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
A typical teenager, Walter Leslie had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. He enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers.
Always considered a “good” friend to those he knew, Walter Leslie enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime. Later in life, he became friends with Wayne Evans.
On October 12, 1961 Walter Leslie exchanged wedding vows with Beverly Ann Evans at Central United Church of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Empathic and loyal, Walter Leslie was committed to making his new family happy.
Walter Leslie worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Walter Leslie was blessed with Five, Fours Sons Glenn, Mark, Brad, Don and one Daughter Brenda. Another blessing for Walter Leslie was the gift of Five grandchildren, Kayla, Kylie, Kaitlyn, Samantha and Matthew.
Fortunately, Walter Leslie enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Walter Leslie worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was Quality Control Supervisor. He was employed for Algoma Steel Corporation. Walter Leslie always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Walter Leslie enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were woodworking, and fishing. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share his interests with others.
Walter Leslie was a man who took pride in upholding his beliefs. So it is little wonder that he took an active role in his community, serving on committees for the mens group at Central United Church.
Walter Leslie’s faith was important to him. He was a member of Central United Church for 55 years. During that time, he was involved with the mens group.
Walter Leslie enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for him to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included going to his shore lot to camp and fish, Across the lake from Richard's Landing, Ontario.
Walter Leslie was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. One of his favorites was Pepper, Austrailin shepherd. His family was rounded out by his cats Blackie.
Walter Leslie passed away on May 30, 2015 at Toronto East General Hospital, Toronto, Ontario. Walter fought a battle with his heart. He is survived by his children Glenn, Mark, Brenda, Brad, Don, and his grandchildren Kayla, Kylie, Samantha, Kaitlyn and Matthew. Services were held at Central United Church. Walter Leslie was laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
Simply stated, Walter Leslie was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Walter Leslie leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Walter Leslie McKay.

McKAY, Walter Leslie – Peacefully passed away at the Toronto East General Hospital on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the age of 81. Beloved husband of the late Beverly Ann (Evans). Loving father of Glenn (Norma), Mark (Cindy), Brenda, Brad (Lisa), and Donald. Cherished grandfather of Kylie, Kayla, Kaitlyn, Samantha and Matthew. Dear brother of the late Georgena Jackson (Jim), Lorrena Bookman (Darl), and Marvyn (Lise). Brother in law of Winston (Hazel), Donald (Myra), late Judy Cooke (George), Ken (Emma), Lois Rudell (Reece), Murray, Shirley Ager (Steve) and Russell (Leeanne). Special friend of Marilyn MacIntyre and family, and longtime friend of Wayne and Carol Evans. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Friday, June 5, 2015 from 6 - 9pm. Funeral service to be held from Central United Church (160 Spring St.) on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 10am. Rev. Laurie Milito officiating.
