

He was born on April 23, 1933 in Olustee, Florida in his grandmother’s house. He met Susan Zoucks while attending Savannah High School and married her on June 30, 1956 at Trinity United Methodist Church.
Charlie earned a Bachelor’s degree from Georgia Tech University in Industrial Engineering in 1957, and worked at NSA in Maryland from 1957 through 1989.
He enjoyed retirement traveling with his wife, spending time with family and friends, living on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, Tybee Island, the St. John’s River in Satsuma, Florida, and finally, settling in Savannah, where he reconnected with family and friends in the area. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served as teacher of the Marvin O’Neal Sunday School Class, and a member of the Sanctuary Choir.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Zoucks Thompson, Savannah, Ga; 2 sons, Charles Walter Thompson, Jr., (Polly), and William Ray Thompson (Holly), both of Columbia, Maryland, daughter, Jane Griffith, Statesboro, Ga; brother, William A. Thompson, Savannah, Ga; 2 sisters, Catherine Thompson Wise, of Savannah, Ga, and Pam Lowe (Aubrey) of Greenville, S.C., and 6 grandchildren, Darcy, Dena and Kelly Thompson, David Thomas, Kurtis and Sadie Griffith, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services: 11 a.m. Monday, at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Rev. Enoch Hendry, officiating.
