

Joe Arlington Murphy, 89, of Savannah, went to be with his beloved bride of 63 years, Bobbie Warren Murphy, on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013 to reside in the glory of God’s Garden. He was also preceded in death by his older brothers, sisters and several loving in-laws.
Mr. Murphy was born and raised in Collins, GA and had attended local schools there. He had spent most of his adult life in the Savannah area. He was retired from the US Postal Service with over 25 years of service. He was a veteran of the US Army having served during World War II and attended Morningside Baptist Church. Joe was known as the unofficial Mayor, care taker of Goebel Ave.
He is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Susan Murphy Hohnerlein, (Dennis) and Linda Murphy Sims (Stephen); three grandchildren, Corey Ryan Hohnerlein, Alexa Rose and Lydia Christine Sims, all of Savannah, nieces, nephews, loving in laws, friends and neighbors.
Visitation: 5 – 7p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2013 at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Dr., Savannah, Ga. 31406.
Funeral Service: 11:00a.m., Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013 in the Chapel of Fairhaven Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Morrow officiating.
Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Garden.
