

John O. Jack Youmans, 87, of Richmond Hill, Ga., formally of Tybee Island, GA and former Tybee Island City Councilmen for over 18 years, passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, March 31, 2012, under the care of Islands Hospice. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude McTeer Youmans and Anna Louise Olliff Youmans; a daughter, Terry Youmans; and a brother, Mack Youmans. Jack was born and raised in Savannah and attended local schools. He was self-employed and a member of Chapel by the Sea Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict, a member of the Georgia Municipal Association, life member of the American Legion, Post 154, a volunteer firefighter with the Tybee Island Fire Department for over 25 years, retiring as a Captain, Tybee Island City Councilman for 18 years, and many more organizations to numerous to mention. Jack is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathy Youmans of Richmond Hill; a son, John O. Youmans, Jr., (Jennifer) of Savannah; a daughter, Melissa Youmans-Stephens, (James) of Richmond Hill; eight grandchildren, Thomas and Travis Morgan of Screven Co.; Lauren, Nicholas, Christine and Alexander Youmans all of Savannah; Michael and Tabetha Stevens of Richmond Hill; two special people, Edward and Marguerite Swain, several nieces and nephews.
