

Maria Rousakis Nichols of Savannah died Friday, March 1, 2013 peacefully in her sleep. She was born January 30, 1932 in Savannah, and was the daughter of the late Antigone and Paul Rousakis, and she was predeceased by her husband, Stellgis John Nichols, her parents, her brother John Paul Rousakis and her sister Alice Rousakis Fleming.
Maria studied nursing in Charleston, South Carolina and was listed in the Who’s Who of American Women. After marrying her husband of 50 years, Stellgis John Nichols, they owned and operated Books Unlimited from 1964 – 1970 and later the Hobby Shop in Medical Arts from 1967 – 1992.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church.
She is survived by her three sons, John Stellgis Nichols, Paul Stellgis Nichols and his wife Sarah Hardee Nichols and their daughters, Alexandra and Morgan, and Phillip Stellgis Nichols; her sister Julia Rousakis Alfieris, sister in law Clarice Nichols and brother in law Evans John Nichols and his wife, Dee, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Fairhaven Funeral Home – Hubert C. Baker Chapel.
Trisagion Service: 7 p.m. Tuesday, in the Hubert C. Baker Chapel.
Funeral Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church, with Father Vasile Mihai, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
