Walter Harris Tanner, 84, entered the presence of his Lord early Sunday morning, November 21, 2010. He fought a good fight and he kept the faith. He was a faithful husband, father, church member and servant of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Harris was born on December 2, 1925 in Savannah, Georgia to the late Ike Farmer Tanner and Kate Powell Tanner. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Corporal. He retired from Union Camp Corp. in the late 70’s and after retirement he ran a screen business in Savannah for over 25 years. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Master’s Class and where he faithfully served as an usher for over 50 years. His favorite Bible verse was Psalm 84:10, “For a day in Thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness”.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nellie Wallace Tanner, one daughter, Nancy Agnew of Savannah, and two sons, Alan Tanner (Bonnie Zipperer) of Savannah, and Dan Tanner of Atlanta. He had 6 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
