Born May 6, 1936 in Antartiko, Greece, Tony lived a full life after moving to Canada in 1955. Having many different jobs over the years, Tony will be most remembered for his time in the restaurant industry where he owned numerous restaurants and served as a cook at the popular Scarborough burger joint, Steak Queen, where he found joy in building relationships with customers, remembering their orders and always joking about how many eggs he’s cracked and burgers he’s flipped - everyone loved being greeted by Tony.
In retirement Tony could be found spending time in his yard where he paid particular attention to his grass, vegetable garden and fruit trees, when not soaking up the sun. An avid fan of watching TV, he also spent many days enjoying old western movies, the national geographic channel and of course sports, especially football (he’d be mad if we called it soccer), and hockey - he was the biggest Leafs fan and loved pointing out which NHL players are of Greek and Macedonian descent.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, Tony is survived by his wife Rose, son Tom (Stacey), daughter Julie (Danny) and granddaughter Samantha (Geoff), sister Aliki (Ted) and his “best friend” great-grand pup, Chewie.
Though his witty sense of humour, stories of the old country, and love will be missed immensely, his family takes comfort in knowing that he’s now reunited and having a drink with his parents, brothers Sam and Agisilaous, and many friends. Tony will always live on in our hearts and through memories.
A visitation for Anthony will be held Friday, March 18, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Paul O’Connor Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E, Scarborough, ON M1R 2Y8. A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. John's Orthodox Church, 1385 Warden Avenue, Toronto, ON M1R 2S3. Interment to follow at Pine Hills Cemetery, 625 Birchmount Road, Toronto, ON M1K 1R1.
