James Harold Slaney

April 18, 1969 – October 2, 2024

It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of James Harold Slaney on October 2, 2024, at the age of 55. Jimmy departed this world suddenly after a short, difficult battle with cancer at the Scarborough Health Network (SHN) – General Hospital in Ontario. Jimmy turned his face to the sun and flew high with the spirit of the eagle. Though his time with us was brief, the depth of love he shared was truly a gift and he will forever remain in our hearts.

Jimmy is best remembered by one of his favourite songs, Simple Man. A simple man who loved simple things in life – as a boy, he grew up in Newfoundland where he loved spending time in the country or on the beach, berry picking and trouting. He enjoyed watching a good game of hockey and playing a scattered game of bingo with his friends. He is described as a lovable pirate who loved to spin a tale, a kind, caring and generous man who loved to dream, a “jack of all trades” who had multiple talents. Jimmy had an ability to tackle any task that life threw at him.

Jimmy will be forever loved and missed by his mom, Bernadette, and siblings Gale (Tony), Angela (Tyrone), Eugene (Antonia), Chad (Sarah), and George Jr. (Megan), his nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and extended family, as well as very close friends Agnes McCourt and Tyler Fitzgerald (a brother from another mother) and their family’s. Jimmy will be deeply missed by those whose lives he touched. We will continue to honor his legacy by living our lives to the fullest.

Jimmy was predeceased by his dad, George and his sister Lisa Marie.

The family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to the SHN - General Hospital - their dedicated Critical Care staff, including Dr. Chris Lazongas, Intensivist, Molly Verderosa, Social Worker and Ellie Henry, Indigenous Patient Navigator, who provided Jimmy and the family with kind, compassionate care.

Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will gather later to celebrate his life, light and love.
