Sherwyn Johnson "Rawle Benn"

The family announces with great sadness the passing of Rawle Percival Oswald Benn also known as "Chummey", "RB", and "Sherwyn Oswald Johnson" on Monday August 12, 2024, at Scarborough Centenary Hospital at 71 years of age.

Beloved son of the late Harold and Margaret A. Benn. Rawle will be lovingly remembered by his 4 Children, Wendy (Jeff Tyler), Petal (Stevenson Scantlebury), Ronelle, and Sherwyn. His eight grandchildren Olivia Benn, Alexis Benn, and Layla Benn, Nalani Mason-Tyler, Jonathan Tyler, Amanda Scantlebury, James Scantlebury, and Stevenson Scantlebury Jr.. His siblings Keith, Lynette, Dawn, Ian, and Blossom.

Born on August 13, 1952, in Corentyne, Guyana. Rawle lived and worked in Guyana until 1975 when he moved to Toronto, Canada.

Rawle's life was characterized by his impeccable sense of style, culinary skills, and high standards. He was appreciated and loved by many because of his winsome personality, easy-going nature, and his smile that spoke volumes with everyone. In his unwavering devotion to God and faith, he discovered a profound sense of purpose that guided every decision and action. This spiritual commitment not only offered him solace during life's trials but also instilled in him the virtues of humility, compassion, and resilience. His daily practices of prayer and reflection became the cornerstones of his character.

Rawle Oswald Percival Benn's legacy is celebrated by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. A Legacy of love, kindness, and an unshakeable faith. A funeral will occur Monday, August 26, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E, Scarborough, ON M1R2Y8. A committal service will occur Monday, August 26, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Thornton Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Centres, 1200 Thornton Rd N, Oshawa, ON L1J 0C9.
