Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, on March 7, 1941, Antonio’s journey was one of resilience and love. He married the love of his life, Dora Velazquez, on November 20, 1964, and together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and enduring commitment. Their 60-year marriage was a testament to true partnership—one filled with laughter, shared dreams, and an unbreakable bond.
A devoted father, Antonio poured his heart into his family, raising his children, Denise Velazquez, Darleen Whelan, and Lizette Castiglia, with the same values of love, perseverance, and generosity that defined his own life. As a grandfather, he adored Taison, Liam, Aurelia, and Christian, always guiding them with warmth and wisdom. His family was his pride and joy, and his presence in their lives was a source of comfort and strength.
Antonio was preceded in death by his grandson, George Eugene Whelan, his parents, Antonio & Belen Velazquez, and his stepsister, Tonita Velazquez. Though his absence leaves an immeasurable void, his spirit remains alive in the hearts of all who knew him.
Antonio’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and friends touched many lives. He was a man of quiet strength, a pillar of support, and a source of wisdom. His memory will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known him.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Home, with visitation from 3-6 p.m. A Mass will be held at Parroquia Nuestra Señora de La Merced in Ponce, Puerto Rico, on Monday, February 10, 2025, followed by his burial at Cementerio La Piedad Cemetery in Ponce, Puerto Rico, where he will rest in eternal peace.
