Denis K. Copeland, a retired textiles salesman, former spokesman for Eastman Kodak, a talented vocalist (baritone), and an Army 1st Lieutenant of the post-Korean War era passed away on January 10, 2016 in White Plains, NY at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his son Sean Copeland, father, Abbott J. Copeland, mother, Nora K. Copeland, and brother, Michael J. Copeland. Mr. Copeland is survived by five children, Timothy Copeland of Stratham, NH, Michael Copeland of Port Washington, NY, Kimberly Sheehan of White Plains, NY, Patrick Riordan of Westbrook, CT and Elizabeth Newman of Cleveland, OH. He has 9 grandchildren as well.
Born in New York City in 1935, Mr. Copeland attended Iona Preparatory School and graduated from The Canterbury School before obtaining his BA from the University of Vermont. Just after the Korean War he served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army as a motorpool officer. He worked for a number of companies in the textile industry as a salesman and at one point was a major spokesman for Eastman Kodak getting quoted in the local papers regularly. Prior to retiring to Sarasota, FL, approximately 18 years ago, Mr. Copeland lived in NYC for over 20 years. He moved back to New York in July, 2015 to be closer to his children.
While living in NYC, Mr. Copeland was very active with the University Glee Club of New York City from the late 1970s to the mid-1990s. Upon retiring to Sarasota, he became very active with the Sarasota Chorus of the Keys (also a vocal group). He was an excellent baritone vocalist and an avid lover of music in general, a trait he has helped pass on to his children and grandchildren. He was unquestionably the life of the party and possessed unparalleled charm. His quick wit, smooth voice and big personality will be sorely missed. Memorial services will be held 2:30 PM Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in White Plains, NY.
