April 13, 1942 – June 23, 2022
Friends, it is with a heavy heart that we inform you of Fran Galloway’s passing. In recent years, Fran left Scarsdale to live closer to her daughter Sarah. Fran will always be cherished and remembered as a wife, mother, a sister and a close friend. Fran and her late husband John, formed a law practice in Scarsdale where they were partners in love, life and law for over 50 years. Fran is survived by her daughters Emily and Sarah and their respective families as well as her two younger sisters and their families and longtime family friend Vincent Bello.
Fran attended Bryn Myar College, graduating with a B.A. in 1963. She then went to the University of Michigan Law School where she earned her J.D. in 1966. She was one of three women in her class. She passed the New York bar in 1967 and was a practicing attorney for 40 years.
Fran was a trailblazer, and an overall fantastic human. I will always remember her dry humor and the way she just loved people. She was also a poodle fanatic. Her granddaughter, Colleen, has become a mom to Fran’s dog, Sirius.
Fran loved to be social. In recent years she attended Movie Monday and was always game for a Parish Life event bringing her famous lemon bars every time. Sue Woodward, Nicky Unger and Bonnie Mitchell were integral in keeping Fran engaged after she was unable to drive herself to events, as were many others of her close friends.
Fran joined the Scarsdale Congregational Church on October 3, 1976. During the last 46 years, Fran was deeply engaged in the life of the church. She Co-Chaired Outreach and remained on the committee for years, she was on Resources, Membership and Parish Life and was a long time member of the Guild. Fran also was deeply involved in our sales, working in linens with Bonnie and later in clothing with Diane Foster. In fact, her daughters and granddaughters were often on hand to help with the sales especially in toys and food. Fran was game to help in ANY way she could. She was often seen helping set up, run and take down Parish Life events. She would always jump into the most undesirable tasks – Bonnie reminds us that Fran would be the first to step up to clean even the dirtiest pot in the Parish House kitchen. She also helped many people in the congregation with their own end of life planning by helping create their wills.
There will be a viewing opportunity on Sunday June 26, 2022 from 3pm to 7pm at Bennett Funeral Home at 824 Scarsdale Avenue in Scarsdale, NY. A celebration of Fran’s Life is scheduled to be held at Scarsdale Congregational Church at 1 Heathcote Road in Scarsdale, NY at 10am. Rev. Joya Colon-Berezin presiding.
