Inge Maria DeNunzio, formerly Scheumann, of Redding, Connecticut, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 4, 2025, after a long and beautiful life. A dedicated wife, mother, and Oma, Inge devoted her life to caring for her family, which she did with ease and without complaint. Inge is survived by her beloved husband, Evandro; her daughter, Inga DeNunzio, and Inga's wife, Colleen Raimondi; her son, Anthony DeNunzio, and Anthony's wife, Jeanette; and her cherished grandchildren, Giuliana, Sabrina, and Sebastian DeNunzio. She also leaves behind her beloved in-laws and family in the United States, as well as extended family in Germany and Italy.
Born in Germany on April 6, 1935, Inge was the daughter of Ernst and Hedwig Scheumann and was predeceased by her siblings. A lover of adventure, Inge traveled to Egypt before living in Melbourne, Australia, for several years. In 1963, Inge made the brave decision to immigrate to the United States, where she settled in Yonkers. In 1971, she married her “Bippy,” Evandro, and together they made their home in Scarsdale to raise their family. In 2016, Inge and Evandro relocated to Connecticut to be closer to family and help care for their cherished grandchildren.
She lived her life with a constant smile, often befriending strangers in the checkout line at Food Emporium, helping kids safely cross the street at Nelson and Boulevard, or chatting with the butcher at DiCicco’s, who always saved her a special cut for her famous stuffed veal that her husband loved so much. However, nothing compared to the love she had for her family. Above all, her heart belonged to her husband, her children, and her grandchildren, the loves of her life.
An exceptional cook, Inge’s culinary talents went far beyond her German heritage, and she was known for making a tomato sauce that could compete with any Italian kitchen. Any food she touched turned to gold, and any plate she served was quickly licked clean, especially her famous (and unrivaled) chicken cutlets, which she prepared with an extra dash of love.
Inge’s favorite color was purple, and she loved watching Christmas movies on the Hallmark Channel all year round. She enjoyed hamburgers, playing Rummikub, dancing, Thomas Kinkade puzzles, and bowling. She adored her “Charlie Brown” Christmas tree, keeping it up and lit long after the needles began to fall.
Inge’s legacy of love and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
A visitation for Inge will be held Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Home, 824 Scarsdale Ave, Scarsdale, NY 10583. A funeral mass will occur Friday, January 10, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 PM at Immaculate Heart of Mary School, 201 Boulevard, Scarsdale, NY 10583. A committal will occur Friday, January 10, 2025 from 11:30 AM to 11:45 AM at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 5 Bradhurst Ave, Hawthorne, NY 10532.
