Joseph Allen Chao

We mourn the passing of J. Allen Chao ("Allen"), beloved son of Samuel Chao, formerly the Executive Officer of the Department of Public Information of the United Nations, of White Plains, and Dr. Adelaida F. Santos-Chao of Scarsdale, NY; beloved husband of Kit Yu Amanda Li of Hong Kong, China; and beloved brother of David (Marianne), Mark and Rowena (Christopher Giattino) Chao of Scarsdale NY.

A longtime field officer of several missions of the United Nations in Asia and Africa, Allen took forward the UN's peacekeeping, bridge and nation-building activities in areas and nations riven by civil strife, including Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Western Sahara, Somalia, Ivory Coast and most recently, Liberia.

A graduate of NYU and Edgemont High School, Allen enjoyed the blessing and fortune to be able to marry his beloved Kit Yu Amanda Li last week in Las Vegas, Nevada.

A viewing will take place at the Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Homes located at 824 Scarsdale Ave in Scarsdale, NY on Saturday, February 16 from 8AM to 9:30AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at the Church of Our Lady of Fatima, 3 Strathmore Road, Scarsdale, NY at 10:00AM, and receiving of friends at the home of David and Marianne Chao, 315 Clayton Road, Scarsdale, NY at 11:30AM.
