Richard was born in Queens, NY to Francis and Mae Gallagher who predeceased him. He was devoted to his wife, Colleen Molloy Gallagher, and together they raised four incredible children: Frank, Erika, and David Gallagher, and Colleen (Matthew) DiGuiseppe. Richard has one grandchild, Dylan DiGuiseppe, with another expected in May. He leaves behind three loving siblings: Gerard (Doreen) Gallagher, Joan (Peter) Gallagher-Holmes and Brian (Eileen) Gallagher, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dr. Gallagher was double board certified in internal medicine and anesthesiology. He graduated from NYU Medical School and completed residencies at UNC Chapel Hill and Columbia Presbyterian Hospitals. Richard recently retired after a long career at White Plains Hospital where he served for many years as the Director of Anesthesiology. Richard was known for his extraordinary intelligence and passion for a multitude of subjects ranging from theology to medicine to the Civil War. He was also known for his integrity, quick wit, and dedication to his family and faith. Richard enjoyed reading, ballroom dancing, traveling on cruises with his wife, and constantly expanding his education in various fields. For many years, he actively led Bible studies and Sunday school classes. His favorite hymn was “Amazing Grace.” Richard created many playlists and slide shows for his family; he was especially prolific in compositions dedicated to and depicting his immense love for his wife. Words cannot express the deep loss we all feel at his passing. We take solace in knowing Richard rests in the arms of his Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ.
"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." ~Romans 8:38-39
