Emma Maeve Hofmann, age 19, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 1, 2017, following a long illness. Emma spent her final days surrounded by family and one very special friend. Born in Boston, on February 22, 1997, to Kathleen (Hanlon) Hofmann and Robert Hofmann, Emma spent her entire life in Scituate, Massachusetts. She attended Scituate Elementary schools and graduated from Scituate High School in 2015.
Emma was an avid lover of the Arts and participated in many Scituate High School theatrical productions as an actor and crewmember. When not acting Emma practiced ballet and taught youngsters the basics of movement and dance. Emma enjoyed travel and was able to visit Costa Rica, Greece, Mexico, the Grand Canyon and Zion National Parks. Emma will be remembered for her wonderful smile and quick sense of humor. Perhaps, more importantly, Emma will be remembered for always noticing and welcoming the people on the periphery. She was known to invite the new student to have lunch at her table or would make sure the shy person was invited into her work group in school.
Emma's ability to see light where others saw darkness is carried on by her brother Nicholas, 22, and her sister, Nora, 17. Emma is survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins and by her grandparents Mary and Fred Hofmann of Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey and her grandmother Mary Hanlon of Marshfield, Massachusetts. Her grandfather, Frank Hanlon and her uncle Stephen Hanlon precede her in death.
A Catholic funeral Mass will be held on Saturday January 7th at 10am at Saint Mary's of the Sacred Heart in Hanover, MA. A reception to celebrate Emma's life will be held at the St. Mary's Parish house immediately following the Mass. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Emma Hofmann Memorial Fund, which can be located at gofundme.com/emma-hofmann-memorial-fund
