
Gene was a decorated United States Marine, serving in WWII. The corporal was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in Saipan, June, 1944 and a Gold Star in lieu of a second Purple Heart for wounds sustained on Iwo Jima, February, 1945.
Gene worked in sales for GMC Truck and Coach Division. After his retirement in 1989, Gene took pride in his walking regimen around Scituate Lighthouse, having logged 30,000+ miles and making many friends, his “walking buddies”.
Devoted father of Kevin E. Grimes and his wife Sachiko of Oahu, Hawaii, Stephen J. Grimes and his wife Cathy of Whitinsville, Chief Richard C. Grimes (Weymouth Police Dept.) and his wife Lorri of Marshfield. Brother of Margaret Curran and her husband Tom of Bridgewater. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral from the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd., Scituate on Thursday, June 6th at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St., Scituate at 10AM. Visiting hours will be held from 4PM-8PM on Wednesday, June 5th. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
