John A. Eaton Sr.

John Albert Eaton, Sr., of Scituate, MA, age 93, beloved husband, father and grandfather died peacefully at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth on November 29 with his daughter at his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Lillian A. Eaton of Scituate, his son, John A. Eaton Jr. of Stoneham, MA, his daughter, Patricia E. Kamel of Peterborough, NH, and two grandchildren, Christopher R. Kamel of Manchester, NH, and Jennifer L. Kamel of Peterborough, NH.

Born and raised in Waltham, MA, he was one of three children including Katherine Eaton Kelly and Barbara Eaton Fischer, born to Edward Albert Eaton and Katherine Webster Eaton. He proudly served in the US Navy and was honorably discharged receiving the WW II Victory Medal.

John graduated from MIT with a degree in engineering. It was during his college years that he met the love of his life and soon after married Lillian C. Adams. They had three children, John Albert Eaton Jr., Patricia Eaton Kamel, and Mark Linwood Eaton. They made their home in Longmeadow, MA while he was employed at American-Bosch in Springfield, MA. In 1959, he moved his family to Scituate, MA for a position as a writer at Cahner’s Publishing Company in Boston, MA. At Cahner’s, John was able to put his engineering background and technical writing skills to his advantage. He won numerous awards for his articles in Modern Materials Handling magazine. John was well regarded by industrial executives, professionals and engineers eager to apply new methods and technologies to manufacturing, warehousing and distribution.

John especially enjoyed annual vacations at Squam Lake, NH where he could spend time with his family boating, fishing and swimming. In his later years he enjoyed using his home computer. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

A private memorial service with family members is planned at First Trinitarian Congregational Church in Scituate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Scituate Etrusco Associates, Box 265, Scituate, MA 02066.
