

John Joseph Ohrenberger Sr. of Scituate passed away on the afternoon of October 8, 2015, at South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth. He was the beloved husband of Margie (Rice) Ohrenberger, with whom he recently celebrated 34 years of marriage.
John was born in Boston, August 10, 1957, and spent his childhood in Dorchester with summers on Third Cliff in Scituate. He later moved to Scituate and attended Scituate High School. John then studied Marine Biology at Southeastern Massachusetts University, where he met the love of his life, Margie Ann Rice.
John and Margie were married in 1981 and raised four wonderful children. John initially worked as a commercial fisherman and in seafood processing, where he pursued his love of marine life and the open water. He was the owner and operator of Ohrenberger Fisheries, Inc., supplying wholesale lobsters to restaurants all over the USA. In 1995, he began working at the United States Postal Service in Roxbury, and later transferred to the Scituate Post Office. John is remembered by many as the reliable and cheery mail carrier for Scituate Harbor, a pillar of the community known for his dedication and work ethic.
His family and friends remember him as a caring and loyal son, husband, father, and brother who took great joy in woodworking, fishing, golfing, and hiking. His many talents, friendly company, and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
Since July 2015, John had been courageously fighting brain cancer in the company of his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, William H. Ohrenberger and Clare (Doyle) Ohrenberger, and his brother, William H. Ohrenberger Jr. He is survived by his loving wife, Margie Ohrenberger; his daughters, Gayle, Meaghan, and Heidi; his son, John Ohrenberger Jr.; and his beloved chocolate labrador, Carley. He is also survived by his sister, Janet McCarthy; his sister, Mary Ohrenberger; his brother, Paul Ohrenberger; his brother, Peter Ohrenberger Sr. and his wife Ellen and their children Peter Jr. and Christine; as well as many extended family members.
Visiting hours are Sunday, October 11, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd., Scituate.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate, Monday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
