

MACKAY, Kenneth- Age 95, of Scituate passed away November 17, 2017. He was the loving husband of Nancy (Holcomb) MacKay. Son of the late Frank and Margaret (McMahan) MacKay. Cherished father to Jamie MacKay, his wife Pamela of Beverly, MA, Renny MacKay, his wife Gail of Scituate and Peter MacKay, his wife Diane of Evergreen, CO. Beloved grandfather to Kristen Sommerer, Andrew MacKay, Alexander MacKay, Lauren Anderson, her husband Jaron and Charlotte MacKay. Great grandfather to Alexandra DiBari, Olivia Sommerer and Emilee Sommerer. Loving brother to Jean Longfellow, Patricia Cotty, her husband Warren, Peggy Cox, Janet Thompson, her husband Howard, Bill MacKay, and his late brother Donald MacKay. He will be remembered by his sisters in law Mary Haberman and Margaret Holcomb as well as brother in law Charles Holcomb. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was a proud United States Air Force Veteran committing to serve his country joining the Army Air Corps shortly after graduating high school. He served as a pilot flying P47’s and P51’s during WWII combat in New Guinea and Japan. Following his service in World War II, Kenneth joined the Massachusetts Air National Guard. He was part of the elite 101st Tactical Fighter Squadron of the 102nd Fighter Wing at Logan Airport and Otis Air Force Base for 22 years where he was called to active duty being stationed in France during the Berlin Crisis in 1961 and 1962. Kenneth retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
He had a long career in the textile business as the Vice President and Product Manager at American and Efird Mills which took him to Charlotte, NC and River Hills, SC until his return to Scituate in 1986. Kenneth was an avid golfer and a member of the Hatherly Country Club, River Hills Country Club as well as the Scituate Yacht Club.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff and family at Cardigan Nursing Home for their excellent TLC during his time there.
A visitation will take place on Wednesday December 27, 2017 from 4pm-8pm at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate, Ma. A burial will take place at 12:30pm on Thursday December 28, 2017 at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne MA.
